International Fishing Competition for Tarutao Ardung Fishing Cup.- This festival is held in March every year in the Andaman watercourse.- Rotee Festival of Satun This festival is held in January at Sapon Ta – You , MuangDistrict, Satum Province.- Sweet corn – Tha Kare Festival – held during March at Tapare Field.

History of Satun Province

No information of Satun Province before and during Ayuthaya periods has been found in any historical records of Thailand.It is assumed that there was no Satun Province during that day but it appeared as hamlets, scattering on the plames along the coast.In the beginning of Ratanakosin period, satun was only a community in the area of Triburi so the history of Satun has relation with the history of Triburi according to the royal historical necord of Ratanakosin in the say of King Rama II mentioned thatIn accordance with the substamce mentioned above it is incliated that Triburi during that period separated into two parties; the first party was leaded by Jawpraya tripamgaerun omd the second party leaded by Praya Apainuraj who depended on Nakorn Srithammarat Province,Later, Preya Apainuraj was appointed the prouincial govesner of Satun, bounded by Nakorn Srithammarat. Then the People of Satun would be better acquainted and governed by Nakorn Srithammarat than Triburi. Praya Apainuraj passed auay ofter he has been the provincial govemes for only two years, and no historical record about the next governer of Satun but considering all the possibilities after that, the next govesner shouldhouy been Parya Apainuraj (Pasanu) s’ royal family who was also more acquainted and depended on Nakorn SrithammaratHistory of Satun also appears in historical annals of Sangkhla but some infoemation about the governers’ names are different from those mentioned in historical record of Ratanakosin during the day of KingRama IIIThe history of Satun government about provincial municipality regirne began in the year 2440 BE. When king Rama III graciously created rayal command to maintain Triburi, Perlis, and Satun to be provincial municipality called “Montoi Triburi “ (Triburi Aclministrative Area) And graciously created Jawpraya TriburiRampakdee, Jawpraya Triburi (Abdul Hamit) the gourenment afficials in the municipality of Triburi Administrative Area. Satum was completely separated from Triburi according to Thai-English Treaty cocerning Thai-Malay demarcation, certified byaffiring the signatures in Bangkok on 10th March 127 Ratanakosin Era (2452 BE) Owing to this tnraty, triburi and Perlis were ruled by England and Satun has been a August 128 Ratanakosin Era (2453 BE)In the year 2475 BE. (1932), there was a transition to constitutional monarchy and Satun has been made a province in the Kingdom of Thailand ever since.The word “Satun” comes from “Satoye” in Malay longuage which meanas “santol” a kind of fruit trees, growing everywhere in this town and later the town was named in Malaylonguage “Negeri Setoi Mimbang Segara” or in Thailonguage , Satun,the city of Oncean Gods. So “the Ocean Gods” has become the afficialsed of the province eversince.Although Satun used to join Triburi in the beginning, it has been consists of 2 administrative districts and 1 sub-district which are Mumbang district , Toongwha districts and Langoo 8ub-district which is in the administrative area of Toongwha district, Loter, in the year 2482 BE. (1939) , Mumbang district was changed to Mueang Satun district. Formerly, Toongwha district was very prosperous, the important goods of Toongwha district “pepper” which was wellknown among foreigners who knew the name of this place as “Suwhai Upae District”. In the year 2457 BE. (1914), growing pepper in Toongwha district reduced in quantity, the foreign merchants left for their homelands. Alot of native people migrated to other regions for new farmlands, most of them settled in La-ngoo sub-district and this brought about prosperity to La-ngoo while toongwha become depressed.Until the year 2473 B.E. (1930), the government considered La-ngoo far more prosperous than Toonywha becouse of its bigger. Population, so it was established “La-ngoodislrict” amd degradeal La-ngoo District tobe a sub-district in the administrative area of La-ngoo Distict. Later, in the year 2516 BE. (1973), Toongwha was established “Toong-wha Distriet” again.Nowadays, the administrative area of Satun Provinee consists of 6 districts and 1 sub-district.1. Mueang Satun District2.
